Wylene Melkert

Wylene Marjorie Melkert, 80, a resident of rural Erhard, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was born June 8, 1932, at home in Orwell Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Rollie and Effie (Martinson) Rix. She grew up in the Erhard area, and attended Pelican Rapids High School, graduating in 1950.
Wylene worked for a time at the Runningen Café, (now the Viking Café) in Fergus Falls, where she met her future husband. On January 20, 1952, she and Albert Earl Melkert were married at the Bagstevold Lutheran Church in Erhard. They made their home on the farm in Erhards Grove Township where they dairy farmed and raised their family.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard where she was a Sunday School teacher and participated in and served as an officer of Ladies Aid.
Wylene enjoyed playing cards, gardening and flowers, dancing, and especially spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Effie and Rollie Rix; her husband, Albert; a great-grandson, Samuel Baumgartner; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Rix; and a brother-in-law, Bob Richards.
Survivors include her children: Danny (Cheryl) Melkert of Rothsay, Greg (DeAnn) Melkert of Erhard, Becky (Jim) Baumgartner of Breckenridge, Kevin (Linda) Melkert of Breckenridge, and Brian Melkert (Annaliza Heesch) of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren: Lisa (Peter) Fiala, Amie (Jason) Chouinard, Allison Melkert, Ryan Melkert, Maggie Melkert, Drew (Chelsey) Sondeland, Jenna (Chuck) Braman, Larry (Erica) Baumgartner, Jason (Rachelle) Baumgartner, Nicole (Troy) Midboe, Ashley (Richie) Shannon, Courtney Melkert, and Gregory Melkert; 11 great-grandchildren: Dylan Baumgartner, Max, Benna and Jace Baumgartner, Abby and Josie Chouinard, Logan Shelander, Jake Braman, Rollie Fiala, and Bryce and Olivia Shannon; brothers, Dick (Lona) Rix, and James Rix; and sisters, Beverly Richards and Joan (George) Fick.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Sunday with a public prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church, Erhard, MN
