Wilma Brause

Wilma Friederike Brause, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was born February 4, 1927, in Lemwerder, Oldenburg, Germany, the daughter of Gerhard Dietrich Johann and Erna Johanne Sophie (Wunderlich) Addicks. She grew up in Germany where she attended school through the eighth grade. In May of 1946 she met Private 1st Class Robert Brause, who was stationed in Lemwerder, Germany, during World War II. On June 30, 1947, Wilma arrived in New York City, New York, and then journeyed to Minnesota, arriving on July 2, 1947. Her naturalization took place on May 20, 1952. On July 13, 1947, she married Robert Rufer Brause in Western Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota. She farmed with her husband until 1970. She then worked at the Salvation Army from the late 1970’s until 1984. Wilma was a member of her homemakers group, and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and sewing. Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Nancy Kjono; a brother, Gerd Addicks and his wife Marga; a sister, Paula Addicks; 11 half-brothers and sisters; a sister-in-law, Marcella Ziegel and her husband, Orville; a brother-in-law, Charles Foss; and her mother and father-in-law. Survivors include her husband, Robert Brause of Fergus Falls; her daughter, Peggy Brause of Fergus Falls; two grandchildren: Arden (Wendy) Kjono of Fergus Falls, and Denise Hanson of Coon Rapids; five great-grandchildren: Desiree Hanson of Coon Rapids, and Elisabeth Kjono, William Kjono, Alexandra Urvand, and Mackenzie Urvand, all of Fergus Falls; a half-sister, Gerda Ruscher, and a half-brother, Heini Diekmann, both of Germany; a son-in-law, Larry Kjono of Fergus Falls; a sister-in-law, Betty Foss of Springfield, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a visitation from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Light and Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. with Chaplain Ken Austin officiating. A private family graveside service will be held later at the Western Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
