William Boardman Leckey, Sr., 86, of Fergus Falls, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at his home.
William was born on August 7, 1930 to William Boardman and Irene (Dressen) Leckey in Decatur, IL. In 1948, William joined the United States Marines and served from 1948 to 1949 in the reserves and was on active duty from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean War. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, IL in 1950.
On December 27, 1952 William was united in marriage to Retta Reynolds in Washington, IL. His career in retail management spanned numerous stores including JCPenney, Gambles-Tempo, Coast-to-Coast and at Collectors Corner in Fergus Falls, MN.
William belonged to the VFW, the American Legion and volunteered for many years at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. He enjoyed gardening, history and his work at Collectors Corner.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Irene Leckey; his parents-in-law, Clive and Pauline Reynolds; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jo and Bud Schafer; and a brother-in-law, Edward Schewe.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Retta Leckey of Fergus Falls; his son, William (Carolyn) Leckey of Woodbury; his sister, Maureen Schewe; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Steve and Kristi Lausch family, Jim and Jackie Ivers and Jill Fowler.
Memorials are preferred to the Otter Tail County Humane Society or Lakeland Hospice.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home
Celebration of Life Service: 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel
