William A. “Bill” Ebersviller, 90, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls. He was born May 19, 1920, at Golden Valley, North Dakota, the son of William F. and Alwine (Fick) Ebersviller. In 1921 his family moved to Pelican Rapids where his father started a farm implement business. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1931 and started a branch of the business, run for many years by Bill Sr., Gordon, Bill and Rodney. During World War II, Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant Bombardier in a lead B-24, bombing strategic targets in Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and various other service medals. After the war, he completed business college and returned to work in the family business. He later joined the Fergus Falls Daily Journal, working in their advertising department until his retirement in 1985. He married Nancy Underwood in 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They were blessed with a son, Judd, and a daughter, Amy. Later, they welcomed three grandchildren whom he adored. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family, friends, and his country. Bill enjoyed his hobbies of photography, hunting, fishing and puttering at his lake cabin. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Lorraine (Norman) Galloway, and his brother, Gordon (Mary Fran) Ebersviller. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Fergus Falls; his son, Judd (Leigh) Ebersviller of Minnetonka; his daughter, Amy (Dan) Mathews of St. Louis Park; three grandchildren: Paris Ebersviller, and William and Benjamin Mathews; his sister, Catherine (Morrie) Heyen of Fergus Falls; his brother, Rodney (Barbara) Ebersviller of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
