Wilbur H. Hegerle, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls.
Wilbur was born on November 8, 1920, in Dora Township, Ottertail County, the only child of Joseph A. and Molly (Poll) Hegerle. He grew up on the family farm, during the Great Depression. Wilbur attended country school. As a young man, during the winter months, he worked in a saw mill near Shell Lake.
On September 11, 1948, Wilbur married Marlys Ohman at Loon Lake Lutheran Church near Vergas. The couple made their home in Fergus Falls. He was employed by Central Bi-Products, Mid-Am Dairy and the Otter Tail County Highway Department.
He enjoyed fishing with his wife at their lake home on South Turtle Lake and deer hunting with his three sons. He also enjoyed steam engines and attended the Dalton and Rollag Steam Threshers Reunions.
Marlys passed away on September 2, 2007. In 2009, Wilbur sold their home and moved to The Sheridan House, Alcott Manor and most recently Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marlys.
Wilbur is survived by his three sons, Joel Hegerle of Fargo, North Dakota, Ron (Cheryl) Hegerle of Pelican Rapids, and Daryl (Sara) Hegerle of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Jack (Jess) Hegerle, Luke (Chelsea) Hegerle, John (Rebecca) Hegerle, Collin (Melissa) Hegerle, Elise Hegerle and Grant Hegerle; and four great-grandchildren, Lief, Ben, Margot and Abigail.
There will be a fellowship following the burial at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.
