Wesley David Tobin

Wesley Tobin, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls.

Wes was born on December 3, 1921, and raised in Fergus Falls, MN. He attended NDSU, then transferred to and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in chemical engineering.

He served as a 1st Sgt. army medic in a M.A.S.H. unit in the Pacific theatre during WWII.
Following his military service, Wes started his career in Minneapolis at a chemical plant. He later found sales and service was more his calling while working for an oil distribution company in Minnesota. A merger moved him and his family to Nashville, TN. Over his career, he became a well-respected mining equipment salesman. Over time, he made many long-term friends in the coal mining industry through his passion for quality, service and price. He enjoyed his work in the mining area of Pikeville, KY, so much that he continued working until the age of 90. Upon his retirement, he moved to Gallatin, TN.

He enjoyed many hours of camaraderie and pool at the Gallatin Senior Center. In December, 2016, Wes moved to the Fergus Falls Veteran’s Home.

Wes was a duck hunter in his early years, spending much of his time hunting in Otter Tail County. He enjoyed hunting and fishing (on Otter Tail Lake) with his children. Wes was an avid reader of current events, and enjoyed a great game of cribbage or pool. He also loved English Springer Spaniels. He followed the Minnesota Twins, the University of MN sports teams and Duke University basketball.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Helen (Leidal) Tobin; his sister, Dorothy Rosenberg of San Francisco, his first wife, Maxine, and daughter-in-law Lorayne (Biss) Tobin.
Surviving Wes are his six children, James Tobin of Woodbury, Nancy (Al) Britt of Memphis, TN, Jane (Richard) Reichow of Princeton, Kathleen (Herb) Duer of Hendersonville, TN, Patty (Mike) Shol of Fergus Falls, Cindy (Nap Overton) Tobin of Memphis, TN; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Gallatin Senior Citizen Center, 200 E. Franklin St., Gallatin, TN, 37066.

A family memorial service will be held at a future date, with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN.
