Wayne Clifford Shol passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, December 21st, at his home overlooking West Lost Lake.
His story began on May 10th, 1941 when he was born to Clifford and Vollie (Swanson) Shol at their family home in rural Underwood, Minnesota. After attending grade school at Barnard, he graduated from Underwood High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic serving at Ft. Carson Colorado and Ft. Riley Kansas. Once his service was done, Wayne returned home to help at the family farm and would later work self-employed at many endeavors including custom cabinetry and furniture making, where he would eventually meet his future wife Wendy Marie Schnobrich while he was installing cabinets at a home where she was staying. They would later have four sons, Timothy, Ryan, Craig and Derek. He had many different trades including farming the land, raising beef cattle, custom sawmilling, selling lumber, producing maple syrup and fur trapping to name a few. He was a man of great ambition that could fix anything and was always building something. He especially had a love for woodworking and would work on a variety of projects such as inlaid tables, furniture, cabinets, cutting boards, turned bowls and rolling pins that would always amaze his friends and family. Many times, he built furniture solely from a picture that a customer would present to him. He had many other passions in life including hunting, fishing, listening to any music with a good beat or drum solo, gardening or any reason to run his machinery. His love for life living on the farm could only be matched by his love for helping out his friends and family. Wayne touched many lives, he will be missed by many and remembered for his great art of conversation and his endearing sense of humor.
He leaves behind his three sons, Ryan of Fargo, ND, Craig and Derek both of Underwood, MN; his three sisters, JoAnn of Erhard, MN, Eileen (Keith) Anderson of Alexandria, MN, Judy (Eric) Neumann of Cedar, MN and granddaughters, Kelsie and Emma Shol.
Preceding him in death were his infant son, Timothy Wayne Shol; his father, Cliff; mother, Vollie; wife, Wendy; father-in-law, Eldor Schnobrich; mother-in-law, Sedonia Schnobrich; brothers-in-law, Arlen “Andy” Anderson, Tom Engfer, George Schnobrich, David Babb, and sister-in-law, Mary Riebel.
