Walter Wangsness, 100, of Perham, formerly of rural Fergus Falls, died Tuesday at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Walter was born on March 29, 1910 in Stony Brook Township. He was one of ten children born to Severt and Karen (Hole) Wangsness. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. On November 11, 1934 he married Chestine Kolle at Rock Prairie Lutheran church. The couple lived and farmed the family farm for decades. In the 1960’s he began working at the Dalton Elevator and later helped farm with Mike Rund. Through the years he enjoyed caring for the yard at the farm, gardening, playing cards at the Wendell Senior Center and visiting with neighbors and relatives. In March of 1996 he moved to Perham and lived at St. James Manor until the spring of 2005 when he moved in to the Pine Harbor wing of the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Chestine, who died in 1995 and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Ansil (Judy) Wangsness of Willmar and Carl (Kathy) Wangsness of Perham; four grandchildren, Christine (Jim) Schreier, Cheryl (Dennis) Eickelkamp, Troy (Becky) Wangsness, Trevor (Jan) Wangsness; 9 great-grandchildren, Aimee Gravgaard, Reid Dreckman, Tory Eickelkamp, Emily and Meghan Schreier, Brody, Amanda, Braeden and McKenna Wangsness. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
