Walter Arnold Halvorson, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born March 19, 1919, at Leeds, North Dakota, the son of Christian and Ragnhild (Bjoring) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lebanon Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended school in the Leeds area. On November 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Bernice Hanson in Fargo. They operated the family farm until 1949, also living at Lakota and Lisbon, North Dakota, where he was a Meat Market Manager. In 1953 they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, where he was employed at the Regional Treatment Center for 30 years as a Senior Technician. After retiring in 1983, they spent their winters in Arizona. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Mabel, and a brother, Harold. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bernice; his children: Marilyn (Phil) LaBrosse of Arden Hills, MN, Betty (Norm) Larsen of Tucson, AZ, and Robert (Pam) Halvorson of Duluth, MN; five grandchildren: Jeremy, Jessica, Christine, Lindsay and Ashley; and seven great-grandchildren.
