Vivian Irene Hoff, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at the Hospitality House on Dayton Lake, rural Fergus Falls, under the loving care of Mel and Mary Ann Frank and Lakeland Hospice. She was born November 18, 1923, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Freda (Auseth) Mavis. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She attended rural school at District #157 in Aastad Township, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1942. She then attended Teacher Training Class in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1944. On October 10, 1944, she married Kenneth J. Hoff at the Aastad Lutheran Church parsonage, rural Fergus Falls. The couple farmed with their family in Aastad and Dane Prairie townships until 1966 when they moved to Fergus Falls. She taught at rural elementary schools in Aastad and Maplewood Townships. She later was employed as a Human Services Technician at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center for 22 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Alexandria VFW Auxilliary. Vivian bred and raised Persian cats, showing them in the United States and Canada for eight years. Her main interest since retiring was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth; her parents; two brothers, Walter Mavis and Willmer Mavis; and a grandson, Cole Jacobson. Survivors include two sons: Van (Mary Jane) Hoff of Fergus Falls, and their children, Lanny, Brett, and Christopher Hoff; and John Hoff of Fargo, ND and his children Amanda and Justin Hoff; three daughters: Karen (Gary) Jacobson of Bemidji, MN, and their children, Tracy Williams, Cody, Caleb, Chase and Chance Jacobson; Debra (Tim) Akers of Truman, MN, and their son, Isaac Akers; and Jane (David) Fournier of Fergus Falls, and their children, Anna, Micah, and Kenna Fournier; two great-grandchildren, Jasper Hoff and Owen Helm-Hoff; and a great-granddaughter on the way, Jordyn Emma Hoff; a sister, Ramona Hoff of Fergus Falls; and a brother Lawrence (LeAnna) Mavis of Fergus Falls. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
