Vivian Dietman

Vivian M. Dietman, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born February 26, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Bye) Lowery. She lived in Cedar Rapids until the age of 12, when she moved with her family to Minneapolis where she graduated from West High School. She then worked as a legal secretary in the Minneapolis area. On September 23, 1944, she married Arnold Dietman at the chapel at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. They lived in base housing at Fort Snelling, where Arnold was stationed. In 1946 they moved to Cold Spring, living there until 1968. At that time they moved to Milbank, SD, later to Richmond, and then settled in Fergus Falls. Vivian was a member of the Catholic Church where she belonged to it’s circles. She will be remembered as a cook, gardener, reader, and seamstress, and for her love of family. She was a naturalist, recording weather and wildlife. Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Betty Mattson, and a brother, Jack Lowery. Survivors include her husband, Arnold Dietman of Fergus Falls; three sons: Richard Dietman (Mary Musielewicz) of Rochester, MN, Jim (Jan) Dietman of Milbank, SD, and Doug (Debbie) Dietman of Battle Lake, MN; seven grandchildren: Dawn (Mike) Davern, Jon (Ann) Dietman, Ange (Chuck) Green, Lin (Jared Stotts) Steinlicht, Jen (Austin Buskohl) Dietman, Ali (Allen) Meyer, and Jeff Dietman; and four great-grandchildren: Luke Dietman, Lauren Dietman, Erin Davern, and Sarah Davern.
