Virginia E. Obowa

Virginia E. Obowa, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls.

She was born on September 26, 1920 on the farm in Maine Township, Otter Tail County, the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Fabri) Zamani. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Catholic Church in Maine, MN by Bishop Bartholomew on September 3, 1934 and attended country school in District 120.

Virginia graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls and went to Calhoun Business College in Minneapolis for four months when she got called to work in AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Administration) office in Fergus Falls. From there she transferred to work for the Farm Security Administration office in Fergus Falls. She was transferred to work in the Olivia, MN office for several weeks and later accepted a position in Farmington, MN for Scott and Dakota Company. In 1947 she transferred to the Finance office in Indianapolis, Indiana. While in Indiana she spent 2-1/2 years in Sunnyside Sanitorium in Indianapolis, Indiana recovering from TB.

After she returned home to Fergus Falls, she went back to work in the County Office. At that time she met the love of her life, Louis, at his neighbors new machine shed dance and they were married six months later on January 2, 1952 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. Through the years she enjoyed gardening, dancing, baking, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her loving husband of 63 years, Louis; brother, James Zamani; four sisters, Emma Giorgini, Ada Scarpellini, Dena Zamani and Anita Ferency.

She is survived by her three sons, Bernard (Laurel) Obowa of Fergus Falls, Denis Obowa of Fergus Falls, James Obowa of Lino Lakes; grandson, Thomas (Christy) Obowa of Fergus Falls; great-granddaughter, Isabelle; step great-grandchildren, AnnaMarie and Zachary Hanson; sisters, Nellie (Mando) Primo of Brandon, Florida, Mary (Daniel) Dennis of Dallas, Texas; and sister-in-law, Gertrude Obowa.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls

Burial: St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery, Fergus Falls
