Violet Helen Swanson, age 93, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Violet was born on January 11, 1923, to Eddie and Hilder (Nord) Schachtschneider in Underwood, MN. She attended Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood with her family. Being very musical, she played the accordion with an all-girl band called the Rythmnettes, who travelled in the nearby region. Violet graduated from Underwood High School in 1941 and went on to beauty school, later buying and running her own beauty shop in Battle Lake for a time.
On October 4, 1947, she was married to John Vernon Swanson. They farmed just outside Underwood until moving to Fergus Falls, where she was a homemaker. Violet was an avid and talented seamstress and crafter. She won State Fair ribbons for her clothing creations and enjoyed sewing all of her family’s clothes. She was also an active member of First United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls and enjoyed living at Mill Street Residence for the last five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Swanson; a niece, Carolyn Fisk; and a great-nephew, Randy Allgire.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Lissa (Wayne) Pelzer of Maple Grove; her beloved grandchildren, Chantelle Pelzer of Minnetonka and Kyle (Rylee) Pelzer of New Brighton; her sister, Eunice Call and a niece, Serena (Jim) Allgire all of Federal Way, WA; and many other special family members.
Memorials are preferred to Mill Street Residence in Fergus Falls.
