Violet Skogen

Violet D. Skogen, age 97, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday evening, August 18, 2007 at the Pioneer Retirement Community. She was born on June 6th, 1910 in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County to John and Lillian (Olds) Kugler. As a child she attended School District #159. Violet was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. In 1933 she married Raymond Genz at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Fergus Falls. The couple farmed in Maine Township until Raymond's death in 1958. Violet moved into Fergus Falls and worked at the Pioneer Home as a Nursing Assistant. Not long after she moved to Erhard. On July 2nd, 1964 she married Erwin Gilbertson. Following his death in 1965, she married Art Skogen in October of 1967 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Together they lived on Pelican Lake until 1978 when Art's illness caused them to move. He died in 1979. Violet then moved to Fergus Falls and made her home for many years at the River Bend Apartments. Most recently she has been living at the Pioneer Retirement Community. Throughout her life Violet enjoyed music, painting, traveling, and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands; Raymond Genz in 1958, Erwin Gilbertson in 1965, and Art Skogen in 1979, 2 brothers, Robert and Vernon; a son, Stanley Genz; and one grandson, Steven Findley. Violet is survived by her daughters, LaVonne Morgensen of DeForest, Wisconsin and June Ramey of Maryland, a son, Marlin (Janet) Genz of Clitherall, a brother, Marvin (Gladys) Kugler of Erhard, sisters, Lila Duenow of Fergus Falls, Velda (Vernon) Bucholz of Fergus Falls, and Sylvia Thompson of Pelican Rapids, stepchildren, Kermit (Beverly) Skogen of Detroit Lakes, Andy (LoAnn) Skogen of Barnesville, Calvin (Dorothy) Skogen of Detroit Lakes, Corrine (Dennis) Gilbertson of Benson, Arizona, Dee Skogen of Evansville, Indiana, Roger (Deloris) Gilbertson of Benson, AZ, Glenna (Wayne) Sillerud of the Phoenix, Arizona area, and Phyllis (Ron) Kugler of Underwood, many grandchildren, as well as numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
