Violet Rollag

Violet Eileen Rollag, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls. She was born October 31, 1922, on the family farm in Maine Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Turman) Dess. After her father died in 1928, the family moved to Underwood, where she attended school, graduating from Underwood High School in 1940. On October 18, 1941, she and Vernon Rollag were united in marriage at the Sverdrup Lutheran Church Parsonage in Underwood. They resided in Maine Township until 1951 when they moved to Fergus Falls. Violet worked as an LPN at the Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls for 32 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the Minnesota Retired State Employees Assn., and the Senior Citizens in Fergus Falls. Violet loved to cook, bake, can and freeze produce from her husband’s garden, read, knit, and crochet. She especially loved her family and spending time with them. Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of Fergus Falls; three sons: James (Judy) Rollag of Annandale, MN, Daryl (Nancy) Rollag of Stacy, MN, and Jerry (Margaret) Rollag of Garfield, MN; eight grandchildren: Craig (Robbin), Scott (Trisha) Kevin, Troy, Brian, Christopher (Hattie), Kimberly (Mike), and Daniel (Natalie); and eleven great-grandchildren: Aaron, Joshua, Kelsey, Tanner, Austin, Grace, Jacob, Jonathon, Cassie, Blake and Isabella. Also surviving are two sisters: Lavida Ness of Underwood, and Ivy Saathoff of Tucson, AZ; a half brother, Orvin Anderson of Winnipeg, Canada; sisters-in-law, Naomie Rollag, Betty Rollag, and Fern Rollag; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepfather, Gustav Anderson; her brothers-in-law, James Ness, Donald, Arnold, Norman, Kenneth, and Earl Rollag, Ernest Saathoff, and Oliver Schutte; and sisters-in-law, Darlene Dreschel, Eunice Schutte, Julianne Rollag, and Marie Rollag.
