Viola I. Martinson, 90, formerly of Rothsay, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born on March 25, 1917, in Rothsay, Minnesota to Alfred and Clara (Froslie) Toso, one of eight children. They were a farming family and Viola attended a country grade school. She was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Lutheran Church. On August 30, 1939 she married Harry Martinson in Rothsay. She worked at the Rothsay school as a cook for 20 years and also cooked at the Rothsay Truck Stop. She retired in 1980. The highlight of her life was a trip to Norway she took with her sister in July of 1984. Viola enjoyed bowling, cooking and baking, playing whist, listening to the Minnesota Twins games, and especially spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Hamar Lutheran Church and was active in it's Ladies Aid group. She was also a very active member of the Rothsay Senior Citizens Group. In 1996 she moved to the Broen Home. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harry, in 1992; and three brothers: Morris, Clifford and Curtis. Survivors include her five children: Gene (Linda) Martinson of Underwood, Sharon Deitschman of Willmar, Bonnie Lankow of Vinton, IA, Ron (Nancy) Martinson of Hutchinson, and Tim (Jody) Martinson of Worland, WY; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Gladys Velo of Fargo, Ruby (Gary) Danielson of West Fargo, Arlene (Herbie) Grunewald of Pelican Rapids, and Betty Nettestad of Moorhead; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
