D. Viola Holden, 87, a resident of Moorhead, and formerly of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead. She was born January 19, 1921, near Rothsay, Minnesota, the daughter of Anton and Clara (Varholdt) Dunham. She was baptized at Hamar Lutheran in Rothsay, and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran in Wahpeton, ND in 1935 by Reverend John Gisvold. She attended rural school at District #280 and #59 in Otter Tail County until she moved with her family to Wilkin County. There she attended District #40 and graduated from Breckenridge High School. On March 20, 1948, she was married to Obert Holden at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, Minnesota by the Reverend Herman Jorgenson. The couple farmed in Aurdal Township until they retired, and continued to live on their farm until Obert passed away in 1997. She then moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, to live near her sons and their families. Viola was a former member of the Vang and Zion Churches in Fergus Falls, and their ladies aids, and was currently a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead. She was also a former member of the Aurdal Homemakers Club. Preceding her in death were her husband, Obert, in 1997; her parents; two sisters, Agnes, and Pearl and her husband Orville Evenstad; two brothers, Justin and his wife, Frances, and Wallace; a sister-in-law, Margaret Clambey; and a brother-in-law, Clifford Pederson. Survivors include her two sons, Larry and Debbie Holden of Moorhead, and their children Michael (Courtney) and Kristen (Jerry) Aakre, and Orlyn and Lori Holden of Moorhead, and their children Adri and Meghan; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Pederson and two brothers-in-law, Chester (Connie) Holden and Kenneth (Winnie) Clambey all of Fergus Falls. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
