Vincent Silas Phelps, 95, a resident of Dent, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the Perham Living Center in Perham, Minnesota. He was born March 8, 1916, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the son of Silas and Bessie (Jenne) Phelps. As a young child he and his family moved to Maine Township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, after the death of his father. He grew up and attended Zorn Country School #137. In the 1930’s he purchased a truck and hauled cream and milk in the area, operating as Phelps Trucking. He started farming in 1945 in Maine Township, purchasing the farm in 1951, and then the Modine farm in 1956. On October 14, 1937, he married Lois “B” Noble in Fergus Falls, and they made their home in Maine Township. Vincent sold his farm in 1999. He was a member of the Maine Presbyterian Church and the Silent Vale Cemetery Board, serving as the Sexton. He enjoyed working with the cemetery, and had a passion for caring for it. He also enjoyed working on and restoring his farm truck. Vincent loved his family, and visiting with friends and telling stories. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lois; his son-in-law, Donald Dose; and three brothers: Claude, Arthur “Bud” and Otis Phelps. Survivors include his daughter, Karen (Stan) Scieszka of Hutchinson; two grandsons: Dale (Sandy) Dose of Apple Valley, and Theodore (Carrie) Dose of Jackson; and five great-grandchildren: Andrew, Rebecca, Sydney, Nathan, and MacKenzie Dose.
