Vernon (Jack) A. Stevens, age 72, a resident of Dalton, died Friday, January 12, 2018, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls due to complications of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
Jack was born on January 24, 1945, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He moved to Fergus Falls at the age of nine where he attended school and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1963. After high school, Jack served in the United States Army Reserves for several years while working in Fergus Falls.
On April 8, 1967, Jack was united in marriage to Diann S. Jacobson of Evansville at the Erdahl Lutheran Church. They moved to Houston, TX in 1970, where he began his lifelong career in the construction industry. After 40+ years of building airports, schools, and adding to the Houston skyline, he decided to retire in 2007. Shortly after he and Diann decided to move back home and settle down in Dalton.
Jack enjoyed being outside and was always busy. He loved to fish (especially salt water fishing in Galveston, TX). He stayed busy in the yard and was always making improvements to the house. And then there was his cars. He loved cars since he was a kid and was always tinkering in the garage. His meticulous, quiet manner and hard work ethic, were admired by many.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Marion Maurin, step-father J.P. (Jack) Maurin; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Diann, son Scott (Stacey) and two grandsons Jacob and Cooper of Cypress,TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Multiple System Atrophy Coalition and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
Clergy: Chaplain Deb Forstner
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
