Vernon Knutson, 92, of Moorhead, formerly of Rothsay passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Moorhead, MN at his residence.
Vernon Knutson, the son of Thomas and Inga Knutson, was born March 19, 1927, in Rothsay, MN. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in the Rothsay, area graduating from Rothsay High School in 1945 as the class Salutatorian.
After graduating high school, he began farming on the family farm near Rothsay.
On September 22,1951, Vernon was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson in Rothsay at the Hamar Parsonage.
In addition to farming, over the years he was also a school bus driver, operated a TV repair business, did custom crop spraying, managed the Farmers Co-op Oil Station in Rothsay, and managed the Rothsay I-94 Truck Stop.
He was a charter member of the Rothsay Lions Club and an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
His hobbies included collecting old radios, collecting and restoring Minneapolis Moline tractors, woodworking, and attending auctions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys (Martin) Kowalski; brothers, Clarence, Theodore (Marion), Albert (Delores), Ingard (Muriel), and infant brother, Ingvold.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Steven (Janice) Knutson, Michael (Sandy) Knutson, and Jeffrey (Lore) Knutson; grandchildren, Stacy (Clint) Schmidt, Joseph Knutson, Thomas Knutson, and Aimee Knutson; great-granddaughter, Freya Schmidt;
sister-in-law, Mabel Knutson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One-hour prior to the service at the church
Service: Monday, November 4, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay
Clergy: Reverend Randy Whitehead
Interment: Our Savior’s Cemetery, Rothsay
