Vernon Eastby, 81, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, October 9, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born August 13, 1928, in Battle Lake, the son of Lars and Anna (Anderson) Eastby. He attended school in Battle Lake and Underwood, graduating from Underwood High School. He attended St. Cloud State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958. On November 2, 1950, he married Beverly Kolstad, in Underwood. Vernon worked for several years at Montana Mills in Fergus Falls as an office manager and later was employed at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, retiring from there in 1990. Vernon served in the Korean War, earning the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, DAV, the Elks and was an Associate Guardian of Job’s Daughters. He enjoyed trap shooting, woodworking, and traveling. In the later years, Vernon and Beverly spent their winters in Alamo, Texas. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Lane and Keith and a sister, Norma. Survivors include his wife, Beverly, three daughters, Judy (Gary) Boushley, Ellen Eastby, and Jo (Jeff) Kohlhase all of Fergus Falls and grandchildren, Jenny (Michael) Westbooks, Kelly (Troy) Stenvold, Kerry Boushley, Casey Rude, Aaron Rude, Tina Kohlhase, and Stephanie Kohlhase.
