Verna Caroline Rude, 85, formerly of Dalton, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.
Verna was born on October 17, 1930, to Edwin and Emma (Johnson) Olson in Parkers Prairie. She was baptized on December 5, 1930, and confirmed on September 16, 1945. She attended grade school at District #41 in rural Parkers Prairie and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1949.
On June 21, 1950, she was married to Robert Clayton Rude at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. She was a loving wife and mother, and worked as an in-home childcare provider from 1977 to 2008.
Verna was a member of the Dalton American Legion Auxiliary, Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA, Homemakers Club, Ruth Bible Study Circle and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, bowling in mixed league, providing childcare for 34 years, dancing and going to casinos.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Emma Olson; her husband, Robert Rude; an infant daughter; a sister, Joyce Holten; brothers, George (Kay) Olson, Carmon Olson, Harris Olson and Arthur (Rose) Olson.
She is survived by her children, Harvey Rude of Loveland, CO, Ronnie (Gwen) Rude of Port Orchard, WA, Sandra (Paul) Fosse of Rothsay, Wanda (Dan) Cassidy of Eyota, and Andrew Rude of Elbow Lake; grandchildren, Christopher Schaub, Ronni (Rich) Wolfe, Allison (Frank) Timpone, Trista (Russell) Schlick, Nicholas (Kimberly) Fosse, Jasen (Kiki Dennis) Schaub, Jessica (Matt) Brien, Danno (Maddie) Rude, Benjamin (Katie) Rude, Jenna Rude, Zachery (Marlee Waldrop) Fosse, Dana Rude, Jessie Rude and Dawson Rude; great-grandchildren, Jaylee, Delaney, Emmitt, Sydney, Collin, Tyson, Frankie, Lorelei, Calvin, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Morgan and Addie; a brother, Ardon (Lovera) Olson; a sister-in-law, Arlene Weisser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with a prayer service at 6:30 and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Our Savior's Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton
