Verna Nelson

Verna Mae Nelson, 81, of Fergus Falls went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 10, 2014 at PioneerCare, Fergus Falls. Verna was born to Gunnar and Mathilda (Sandaker) Kvande on April 12, 1932 on a farm in Ellisville Township, ND. She later was baptized and confirmed at Hauge Church near her home. She attended grade school in Ellisville, then graduated from Alamo High School in Alamo, ND in 1952. After high school she began working for area families, helping wives with housework and childcare. Growing up with eleven siblings, she was very experienced in family service.
Verna moved to Williston, ND where she met Glenn Flick while she was employed at Williston Creamery. Verna and Glenn were married on January 8, 1955 and later had their daughter, Sharen. Glenn passed away on March 2, 1966. After Glenn’s death, Verna moved to Dalton, MN. Verna met and then married Irville Nelson on December 12, 1966 in Elbow Lake, MN. Irville and Verna then had a son, Timothy. Irville passed away on October 29, 1987. She spent several years working at the Broen Home as their baker. She loved interacting with residents and staff. Verna was a very social and active friend to many. She also had amazing musical talent as it was reflected in her ability to learn and play music by ear. She enjoyed the accordion, guitar, autoharp, and keyboard. She actually could play any instrument to some degree and her joy was reflected in her love of dancing. She loved to spend time fishing with family and friends. She was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Auxiliary and recently in life enjoyed doing puzzles.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Herman, Alvin, Trygve, Gordon, Erling, Selmer, and a sister, Malinda. Survivors include her children; Sharen (Steve) Anderson of Dalton, Timothy (Lauri) Nelson of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren, Shaun (Jennifer) Anderson, Seth (Audrey) Anderson, Stephen (Carmen) Anderson, Heather Nelson, “T.J” Sgt. Timothy (Destiney Rocholl) Nelson, Jason (Melissa) Shearer, Carmen (John) Schroeder; fourteen great-grandchildren, Issac, Luke, Adam, Donavin, Reagen, Carsten, Matthew, Ethan, Cole, Kaylee, Natalee, Peyton, Logan, and Izabel; brother Clarence (Martha) Kvande of Black Eagle, MT; sisters, Helen Smith of Port Orchard, WA, Bernice (Ervin) Eid of Columbia Falls, MT, Florence Westerso of Great Falls, MT, and sister-in-laws Tracy Kvande of Helena, MT. and Cecelia Kvande of Grand Forks, ND, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Visitation: One hour prior to service
Service: 1p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at PioneerCare Celebration Center, Fergus Falls, MN

Burial: Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Dalton, MN.
