Verna Wilma (Block) Link, 94, of Underwood, died Friday, November 1, 2019, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
She was born on January 20, 1925, near Rothsay. She was the youngest of eight children born to William and Augusta (Schutte) Block. She was baptized at Hamar Church in Rothsay and confirmed in 1938 at the Foxhome Lutheran Church by Reverend H.M. Thorson. She attended grade school in Foxhome and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1942.
On February 10, 1946, she married Kenneth Link in Foxhome. They lived on the farm until 1967, their nine children were all home while living on the farm. She worked at Andrews Grocery and the A & P Store and was also employed at the Fergus Falls State Hospital for several years.
For 19 years her husband was employed by a turkey corporation and she helped with that. In 1986, they moved into Underwood and she retired.
Through the years, Verna was active in 4-H and Homemakers. She was also a faithful member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, was active in the Ladies Group, enjoyed church activities and was known as one of the “quilting ladies”. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, reading and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, William and Augusta; a grandson, William Duane Link; a great-grandson, Cody Link; three great-granddaughters, Hallie Bjelland, Heaven Brown, and Lani Seitz; a great-great-grandson, Kyler Link; two brothers, Arnold and Elmer, and five sisters, Viola and Hildegaard Block, Amanda Jacobs, Ida Umlauf, and Irene Umlauf.
Verna is survived by her children, Lorene (Dennis) Hasbargen of Breckenridge, Kenneth “Butch” Jr. (Evie) Link of Underwood, William Daryl (Dianne) Link of Kandiyohi, Gary (Tereasa) Link of Underwood, Wayne (Patti) Link of Fergus Falls, Allen Link of Fergus Falls, Shirley (Mike) Funk of Cheyenne, WY, Suellen (Scott) Mavis of Fargo, ND, and Lisa (Ed) Jacob of Dilworth; twenty-six grandchildren; fifty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials are preferred to LB Hospice.
Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church
Service: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 6, 2019, at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Fergus Falls
