Verna Adelia Kugler Olson Hoff, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born January 28, 1914, in Underwood, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Florence (Hanson) Kugler. At the age of three she moved with her parents and four sisters, Mabel, Marian, Frances and Ethel to Fairmount, North Dakota. She was raised there and attended school, graduating in 1932. She then attended Moorhead State College where she received her teaching degree. She taught in country schools for eight years, and then for one year in Dalton, Minnesota. On June 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Olson at the church parsonage in Fairmount, ND by Pastor C.C. Williams. They purchased a small farm by Swan Lake south of Fergus Falls, where they eventually established a small resort, operating it until 1969. In 1970 they moved to some land they owned, and Verna lived there until John’s death in 1984. After her marriage to Floyd Hoff they lived north of Dalton. In 1992 they moved to Underwood where they lived at Tamarack Manor. Floyd passed away in 1993. In 2000 Verna moved to Alcott/Northwestern Manor in Fergus Falls. Verna enjoyed camping and fishing, playing the piano and singing. She also liked to sew, knit and crochet. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her sisters, Mabel (Raymond) Gohee, Frances (John) Schauer, Marian (Harold) Matheson, and Ethel Huse. She is survived by Floyd’s family who loved and admired her, and numerous nieces and nephews.
