Verna Mae Brue, 89, died July 16, 2018, at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.
She was born August 11, 1928, in Grove City, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Della (Forbord) Haverly. As a child she moved with her family to the Spicer Green Lake area and later moved to Fergus Falls and attended Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, graduating in 1945. Following high school, she enrolled at Augsburg College.
On August 23, 1953, she married Donald Brue in Fergus Falls. They lived in Minneapolis, Faribault, Minnesota, and Portland, Oregon, while her husband was in the ministry. They returned to Fergus Falls in 1970, where she continued to live. Through the years, Verna Mae worked for various accounting firms, and was the manager of the Promise Shop.
Verna Mae was a longtime member of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren, along with participating in their WMF and Stitch-a-Quilt. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, gardening, entertaining, and was a great homemaker. She had a love for music, singing duets with her husband and being the organist for some early parish ministries. She was a competitive game player, loved puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with her family, which was very important to her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, who died in 1991, four sisters, Ione Bergstad, Frances Sunwall, Marjorie Gudim and Lois Engebretson; and a brother, Paul Haverly.
Survivors include her two daughters, Cathy (Mark) Tungseth, and Amy (Len) Taylor all of Fergus Falls; three sons, Charles (Carrie) Brue of Fergus Falls, Steven (Linda) Brue of Minneapolis and Thomas (Kari) Brue of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the Light and Life Auditorium
Service: 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Light and Life Auditorium, Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
