Their five children attended and graduated from the Underwood School District.
Verel enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially his children and grandchildren’s games. Some of his hobbies included bowling and golfing, word searches, playing cards, and sharing Mike & Ikes to cure all “headaches”.
Verel served as a trustee at the Doran Presbyterian Church and the Tordenskjold Free Lutheran Church. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School while his children were growing up. Verel went on to sell insurance for Franklin Life in his later years. In 1992, the couple moved to Millerville where Arlene bought a beauty shop. Verel served one term as the mayor of Millerville.
