Valdine Carol Haugen, 81, of Clitherall, died December 9, 2018, at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls.
She was born on August 25, 1937, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Oscar and Clara (Milbeck) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Tonseth Lutheran Church in rural Erhard. She went to Hunters School in Friberg Township through the eighth grade and then attended the Roosevelt Park Senior High School, Fergus Falls, graduating in 1955.
In her childhood, she belonged to the 4-H Club and owned her own horse at the age of thirteen. Upon graduation, she took training in airline communications at the Gayle Institute in Minneapolis, was an office typist for about a year and then went to beauty school.
On June 30, 1962, Valdine married Manley Haugen at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They were blessed with two children, Michelle and Tim. She stayed home to care for the children and help maintain the household.
Valdine was known for her homecooked meals and put on quite a spread during the holidays, with Christmas being her favorite time of the year. She enjoyed many family camping trips with Manley over the years and recently enjoyed spending time at the lake with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Manley Haugen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mervin Anderson, DuWayne (LaVerne) Anderson, Lyle (Phyllis) Anderson, David Anderson and Daryl Anderson; her sister and brother-in-law, Laverne (Ronald) Muchow; brothers-in-law, Glanis Haugan and Jerome (Martha) Haugen; sisters-in-law, Doris Anderson, Delores (Selvin) Sorum, and Darlene Bischoff.
Survivors include her daughter, Michelle (Todd) Fick of Hoffman; her son, Tim Haugen of Clitherall; four granddaughters, Tara (Kent) Proctor of Aitkin, Krista Fick (Chaise Crooker) of Princeton, Carly Fick (Neil Evavold) of Becker, and Breanna Haugen of Fargo; one grandson, Aaron Haugen of Fergus Falls; three great-grandsons, Jamison Crooker, Drew Proctor and Baylor Proctor; one great-granddaughter due in April; sisters-in-law, Janet (Orlando) Follingstad, Tilda Haugan and Donna Anderson; brothers-in-law, Duane (Helen) Haugen and Dale Bischoff along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at Tonseth Lutheran Church, Erhard
Clergy: Reverend Darrel Saathoff
Interment: Tonseth Cemetery, Erhard
