Timothy Smedstad

Timothy John Smedstad, 49, a resident of rural Fergus Falls, passed away July 9, 2008, in rural Fergus Falls.  Timothy was born on October 8, 1958 in Fergus Falls, the son of Maynard and Shirlee (Stromert) Smedstad. He grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated in 1977 from Fergus Falls High School. After high school, he attended Staples Vo-Tech and completed a course in graphic arts. On October 18, 1980, he married Kristi Balken at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the couple had one son, Reece.  Tim established a window washing business “Window Wizard” and continued operating the business for many years. Later he worked for U.P.S. and was the manager of Orton’s Gas Station. In September of 2003 he began working at M & R Sign Company and at the time of his death was the outside sales manager.  He was an active member of the Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society, and was in charge of shuffleboard at their annual conference. He also was a guest speaker at several county and state highway department educational seminars. Tim loved hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, family reunions and spending time with his son.   He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and past president of Pheasants Forever. Tim will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle and friend, who was soft-hearted and easy going.  Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Debra Jo Wolter. Survivors include his son, Reece of Hudson, WI; Reeces’ mother, Kris Jensen of Hudson; one sister, Sandy (Phil) Nagorski of Buffalo, MN; two brothers, Craig (Kathy) Smedstad of Maple Grove and Todd (Teresa) Smedstad of Fergus Falls. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation:   A time to greet friends and family will be held at 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Olson Funeral Home with a public prayer service at 1 p.m.  Memorial Service:  1 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy:   Reverend Curt Rotto and Reverend Kate Bruns Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
