Thora Lundell

Thora Lundell, 97, a resident of Pioneer Care, formerly of Pioneer Point, Fergus Falls, died Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital. She was born May 9, 1913, in Tumuli Township, rural Dalton, the daughter of Peter and Christina (Hegseth) Moen.  She was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at the Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton. Thora attended rural school District No. 7, and Fergus Falls High School.  After high school, she attended Concordia College, and majored in English and Music, graduating in 1936.  Following graduation, she taught in Henning, Cloquet and Muskegon, MI. In August of 1942, she married Leonard Lundell.  The couple lived in several places while Leonard was an instructor in the United States Navy.  Leonard died in June of 1951 at Muskegon, Michigan. After her husband's death, Thora spent two summers at the University of Michigan and received her Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling.  She then decided to return to Minnesota to be close to her family.  She worked as a Coordinator of Counseling at the Robbinsdale Schools for twenty years.  Upon retirement, she spent time with her sister, Carrie, in Fergus Falls.  She drove from Minneapolis every weekend to help Carrie sell her home and move to the Mill Street Residence.  In December of 1998, Thora and her sister, Clarice, moved from Minneapolis to Fergus Falls to be near Carrie.  Carrie died in November of 1999 at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.  In August of 2001, Clarice died after suffering from a stroke. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and an Associate Member of the Norwegian Church.  After she moved to Fergus Falls, she was a member of Our Saviors-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton. Preceding her in death were her husband, Leonard; her parents; two brothers, Palmer and Martin; an infant sister, Mildred and three sisters, Carrie Moen, Clarice Moen and Neola Bredahl. Survivors include nephews, Paul Bredahl, and Richard and Carl Lundell and nieces, Shirley Somonovich, Barbara Benson and Mary Kelly.
