Thomas Russell Rund was born in Tumuli Township, rural Dalton, to Edward and Caroline (Engebretson) Rund, on Thursday, January 13, 1916, during a snow storm. The midwife arrived in a horse and sleigh. He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. Tom grew up in the Ten Mile Lake area and was the third of five children. Tom was an avid gardener in his retirement years, often planting over five hundred flowers each year. Following retirement, they traveled the world, including the countries of Norway, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, China, The Philippines, Egypt, Morocco and many parts of the United States.
Tom and Clarice left the farm in 2008 and lived at Park Gardens. Clarice died in 2009 and Tom continued to reside there until 2013, when he moved to Woodland Lodge.
