Thomas Hoyt

Thomas E. Hoyt, 70, of rural New York Mills, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. Tom was born on July 22, 1940, the son of Edwin and Sadie (Lassila) Hoyt in Wadena. He graduated with the class of 1958 from the New York Mills High School, and then attended Dakota Business College. After college Tom worked for several car dealerships and insurance agencies before starting his own insurance agency, Tom Hoyt and Associates, Inc. After 41 years he closed his business due to poor health. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a daughter, Pam Hoyt. Survivors include two daughters, Kari Hoyt and Sandi Diaz; two grandchildren, Alana Diaz and Matthew Diaz; an aunt, Martha Viergutz; and his special friend of 25 years, Shelba Schoon, and her children and grandchildren: Tammy (Don) Wahlstrom and Cody, Penny (Tim) Rogelstad, Baylee, Brooke, Brynn and Bauer, and Paula Saurer (special friend Brandon), Matthew and Madison Mithaugen. A memorial service for Tom will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Light and Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Light and Life Auditorium at the Broen Home. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
