Tamera "Tammy" Peterson

Tamera “Tammy” Peterson, 62, a resident of Moorhead, died peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by loved ones.

Tammy was born on September 5, 1952, in Fargo, ND to Sidney and Joyce (Hawkins) Winroth. Tammy grew up and attended school in Halstad, MN, graduating in 1970. She continued her education at Minnesota State University of Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1974 with an Elementary Education degree. In 2003, she received her Master’s Degree in Education. Tammy was united in marriage to Roger Peterson in 1975 in Halstad, MN. To this union, three children were born.

Tammy taught in Sisseton, SD from 1974-1975 and in Rothsay, MN from 1975-2011. Upon retirement, Tammy served as a student- teacher liaison for Moorhead State University. Tammy touched the lives of countless students and families. She devoted her life to helping others and was honored by Walmart, as Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 2004.

Tammy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and numerous groups within the church. She was also involved in bible studies and Sunday school. Tammy enjoyed hosting senior citizens events and other community programs with her students. Tammy’s faith, family, friends, students and colleagues were very important to her. She loved reading, spending time at the lake and watching her kid’s and grandkid’s activities. She was a great organizer and a gracious host.

Preceding her in death was her father, Sidney Winroth and mother-in-law, Margaret Peterson.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Roger of Moorhead, MN; children, Lee (Jordan) Peterson of Lake Worth, FL, Jonathan (Ashley) Peterson of Reading, PA, Joshua Peterson of Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren, Braxton, Greyson, Braylon, Avery and Harrison; mother, Joyce Winroth of Fargo, ND; sister, Cindy Winroth of Moorhead; two brothers, Rod Winroth of Lincoln, NE, Randy Winroth of Fargo, ND; father-in-law, Johnnie Peterson of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Connie (Dave) Walden of Hawley; brothers-in-law, Lynn (Nancy) Peterson of Ottertail, Randy (Barb) Peterson of Alexandria. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
