Sylvia A. Rustad, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born August 12, 1925, in Pelican Lake Township of Grant County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Anderson) Rustad. She was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby. Sylvia attended school at District #9 in Grant County and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1943. Following graduation, she was employed for several years at the Grant County Court House in Elbow Lake. She spent one year in Tacoma, Washington, and several years working at General Motors in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1950 she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN, graduating in 1953. After graduation she became secretary to Dr. Opsal, President of the school. In 1959 she began working at Lutheran Theological Seminary as secretary to Dr. Rogness, President of the seminary. After his retirement she was secretary to the Dean of Students. She also typed several books and manuscripts for Dr. Gerhart Frost and Dr. George Aus. She retired in 1989, and moved to Alexandria in 1998. In 2007 she moved to Fergus Falls. Through the years Sylvia enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and she especially liked cookbooks. Preceding her in death were her parents, and three brothers, Carlton, Orvin, and Richard. Survivors include her sister, Betty Rustad of Fergus Falls; brothers, Paul Rustad of Fergus Falls, and Russell (Nola) Rustad of Parkers Prairie; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Rustad of Bloomington, MN, and Marlene Rustad of Tower, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sylvia was a gentle soul who loved her Lord.
