Sylvia McCollough

Sylvia Irene McCollough, 98, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. She was born March 1, 1914, near Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Thomas and Agnes (Bertram) Lee. She lived there until 1928 when the family moved to Fergus Falls, and she attended school at District #31 in Buse Township. Sylvia married George McCollough, and the couple farmed south of Battle Lake while raising their nine children. She also worked at the Glendalough Farm. In April of 2011 she moved to PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and baking – her specialty was donuts. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, George McCollough, her son, Marvin, and daughter-in-law, Ellie, three brothers, Earl “Bud”, Clifford, and Marvin, three sisters, Goldie Neumann, Hazel Jensen, and Minnie, who died in infancy, and her former husband, Carl Miller. Survivors include her children: Charles “Sonny” Miller of Fergus Falls, Elaine Savageau of Fargo, ND, Thomas (Donna) Miller of Fergus Falls, Norman (Janice) Miller of Fergus Falls, Donald (LuAnn) McCollough of St. Paul, George (Judy) McCollough of Henning, Karen (Russ) Brink of Horace, ND, and Roger (Vicky) McCollough of Akeley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five sisters: Dorothy Lindely of Fergus Falls, Gladys Hanson of Fergus Falls, Helen Graber of Spokane, WA, Lynette Ripley of Fergus Falls, and Clara Peasley of Erhard; and three brothers: Woodrow Lee, Charles (Carol) Lee, and Floyd (Delores) Lee, all of Fergus Falls. Visitation: One hour prior to the memorial service at PioneerCare Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Celebration Center at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. Clergy: Reverend Chris Eldridge Interment will be at a later date in Park Rapids. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
