Susan Ann Nygaard

Susan Ann Nygaard, 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 21, 2024 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

 Susan was born June 8, 1944 to Mildred (Johnson) and Myron Nygaard, the oldest of four children. She started kindergarten in 1950, and also attended Special Education classes. She started employment at Productive Alternatives, which lasted 30+ years.

 After her mother died in 2015, Susan and her sister Joyce, went to live with Janet Grulke, who became their caregiver.

 Susan enjoyed many outings with her sister, Janet, and sister-in-law Sylvia. They made trips to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, Mackinaw City, and Wisconsin Dells. She also became an international traveler when they went to Winnipeg, Canada. Each trip had to include buying souvenirs and a treat or toy for their beloved dog, Lucy. 

 Susan enjoyed having friends over for coffee, collecting ceramic chickens, anything yellow, and sunflowers.

 Preceding Susan in death were her parents, brother Brian, and brother-in-law, Ralph Carter.

 Susan is survived by her loving sisters Sherry Carter and Joyce Nygaard; two nephews, Jason (Sara) Carter and their children, Magdalen, Grant, Elsie, and Kate; Shawn Carter and his partner, Nick Bellefeuille; sister-in-law Sylvia Nygaard; cherished caregiver Janet Grulke and her brother, Paul Grulke; spoiled dog Lucy; and dear friends Bob and Gail Johnson, Tressa Tenneson, and many others.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.
