Steven Delwyn Schmidt, 62, a resident of rural Fergus Falls, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, in his home overlooking the river and land that he loved.
Steven was born on June 18, 1955, in Fergus Falls to Delwyn and Altha E. H. (Kugler) Schmidt.
A native of Fergus Falls and a lifetime outdoorsman, Steve was most at home on the lake fishing, in the woods, or in a duck blind. When not in the outdoors, he was an avid reader of western and mountain man novels and enjoyed attending the weekly Elizabeth auction. Over the course of his life, he held an array of different jobs, but was most proud of his time as a Registered Nurse at local care facilities, culminating in a position at Prairie St. John’s in Fargo, ND.
Steve loved helping people and made a positive impact on the lives of everyone around him. Quick to share a laugh and a warm smile, he was fond of sharing his two rules: 1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. and 2. Everything is small.
Steve’s memory will be cherished forever by his sons, Nicholas of Dayton, OH, and Tanner (Hope) of Moorhead, MN; sisters, Sheri (Hank) Hemquist of Baxter, MN, and Sandy (Steve) Sundblad of Pelican Rapids, MN. His grandson Tucker (Tanner and Hope) will grow up to bedtime stories of his grandpa’s hunting and fishing adventures. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Delwyn and Altha (Kugler) Schmidt.
All are welcome to attend to help celebrate Steve’s life by sharing memories and swapping stories.
