Steven Honrud

Steven Michael Honrud, 47, of Erhard, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

He was born October 20, 1966, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Michael and Peggy (Fleming) Honrud. He grew up in Erhard, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1984. He then attended Alexandria Technical College, where he earned his Welding Degree.
In January of 1996 he married Amy Schultz. The couple had two sons, Tyler and Jayme.
On October 18, 2008, he married Tonya Gerdes in Villard, Minnesota. They had two sons, Michael and Ben.

Steven was employed at the West Central Turkey Plant for over 20 years in maintenance. Most recently he was the maintenance supervisor.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard.

Steve’s love was stock car racing (modified racer) on the dirt track. Even after retiring from driving he still had the passion to be at the races especially helping in the pits and hanging with his buddies. He enjoyed go-karting, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and hunting with his boys. He was an A+ dad, so proud of his kids, and he loved being involved in their lives. With Tyler, his love was going and watching him with all his sports. With Jayme, he enjoyed going out into the woods looking for deer tracks, shooting clay pigeons or working on the deer plot. With Michael, he enjoyed riding 4-wheelers, especially since this spring when Dad bought him his own mini 4-wheeler. Ben and Dad also enjoyed riding 4-wheeler and reading books together. Steve was dedicated to his family and he always put us first. Steve was also a great husband and best friend to his wife, Tonya.

Preceding him in death were his mom, Peggy; a son, Jayme; his grandparents; Bennie Honrud, Lawrence Fleming and Selma Fleming; an uncle, Tim Honrud; and an aunt, Susan Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya, of Erhard; his sons, Tyler, Michael and Ben Honrud, all of Erhard; his father Michael (Cyrilla Grover) Honrud of Fergus Falls; his grandmother, Ruth Honrud of Rothsay; his uncles, Gary Honrud of Rothsay, and Terry Fleming, of Fergus Falls; and aunt, Linda Selman of Pelican Rapids; his father and mother-in-law, Allen and Barbara Gerdes of Villard, MN; his brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Kelli (Kevin) Johnson of Dahlen, ND, Chad (Sandy) Gerdes of Villard, Ryan Gerdes of Villard, and Nicole (Patrick) Gaffaney of Glenwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
