Stella Olson

Stella Ailene Olson, 95, a resident of Minneapolis and formerly of Underwood, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Augustana Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was born September 14, 1915, on the home farm near Underwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward K. and Lena (Bjornstad) Olson. She attended country school at Rural District #231, and then the Underwood High School. She also attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Northwestern College in St. Paul, and the University of Minnesota. Stella worked as an accountant for Coast to Coast, a building materials firm, and the last 24 years of her career at Minneapolis Sheet Metal, where she became an owner. She was active in the churches she attended, serving on the council, as treasurer, as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Federation, President and Treasurer of the Minneapolis Wholesale Credit Women, and was a member of the American Society of Women Accountants. Stella helped many people in various ways and always encouraged them to make the best of where they were and work toward improvement. She enjoyed “fishing”, traveling, and home videos. She bought a computer at the age of 87 and learned how to email and do word processing. She worked extensively on genealogy, traveling to Salt Lake City, Norway, and other locations in the United States that her ancestors moved to prior to settling near Underwood. Preceding her in death were her parents, and a brother, Clarence W. Olson. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
