Stanley Sha

July 18, 1922 — February 10, 2010

Stanley G. Sha, 87, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born July 18, 1922, the oldest son of George and Edna Sha. He had two brothers and two sisters: Glenn, Neal, Marilyn and Burma. Stanley farmed with his dad on the old Joe Sha farm in Orwell Township until 1951. He then bought a farm in Dane Prairie Township near Dalton and built a small dairy on it while caring for his mother and father, and also his sister, Burma. He enjoyed photography, especially nature and birds. He and his mother compiled a slide show of his bird pictures and presented it to schools, clubs, and churches throughout Otter Tail County, with Edna offering the commentary. Very active in his community, Stanley served as clerk and other positions on the township board. He even served as Justice of the Peace for a while, but said, “I didn’t do anything on that job”. He served on his church board as council, trustee, and parish president. Stanley was always teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, release time or Bible study, wherever he was needed, and for any church. He worked many summers at Camp Joy on Star Lake, teaching, fixing, and working most of all in the kitchen, where he was famous for “his cinnamon rolls”. He served on the Star Lake Bible Camp Board, the Creamery Board in Dalton, and the school board in Dane Prairie, where he did maintenance and snow plowing. “I got $35 a year. They didn’t have much money,” he explained. After retiring from the farm, he volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army in Fergus Falls, helping with Bible study, ringing bells every winter, or cooking in the kitchen. The year of the Breckenridge flood, he received the Volunteer of the Year award. He spent many hours volunteering and still had time to help his neighbors and visit his aunts and uncles in their old age. On Sunday afternoons you would find him taking a shut-in out for a nice leisurely drive. He leaves behind one brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Shirley Sha of Klamath Falls, OR, a sister-in-law, Alta, of Montrose, CO, numerous nephews and nieces, and many friends. Stanley loved God and God loves Stanley.
