Stanley Eugene Rongstad, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born March 11, 1915, in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, the son of Chris and Ida (Aune) Rongstad. Stanley grew up and went to school in Lamberton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. Stanley went to work for the Lampert Lumber Company in 1936. He married Kathryn Leitch of Fergus Falls on October 14, 1939. Shortly after their marriage, Stan was transferred to Wahpeton, ND, and served as a manager of the lumber yard there. In Wahpeton, Stanley was active in the Rotary Club, and also served on the Volunteer Fire Department. In 1941 Stan was transferred back to Fergus Falls where he became the manager of Lampert Lumber. In 1946 Stan became Regional Manager of the yards in western Minnesota. He was a well respected business man, and retired in 1975. Stan was a member of the Fergus Falls Red Sox team during the late 30’s and early 40’s. He was a great pitcher and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He and his wife, Kathryn, enjoyed travel and gardening. Stanley has a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke or story ready. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Eagles and Elks Clubs of Fergus Falls. Preceding him in death were his wife, Kathryn, in 2009; his parents; his stepmother, Ann (Engeswick) Rongstad; his brothers, Rueben, Arnie, and Alver Rongstad; and his sister, Alpha Runck. Survivors include his brother Chad (Eunice) Rongstad of Mesa, AZ; his sister, Vi Johnson of Lamberton, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
