Stanley J. Johnson, 76, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Broen Memorial Home Short Stay Unit in Fergus Falls He was born in Aurdal Township of Otter Tail County on November 17, 1931, the son of Erwin and Florence (Nelson) Johnson. At the age of 17 he went to work at Davidson Metal Shop in Fergus Falls. He continued in this profession, later developing his own heating and air conditioning business, and retired after 45 years. In retirement he worked at Home Depot in Fergus Falls. On November 25, 1950, he married Betty Helleckson. Stan loved to square dance with The Modern Squares under the calling of Lee Newton. Other interests included bowling, Ducks Unlimited, and traveling. He enjoyed all the people he came into contact with – whether at work or at the Viking Café. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant daughter; his granddaughter, Anna Marie Nelson; his mother and father-in-law, Stella and Edwin Helleckson; a brother-in-law, Donald Orpen; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eunice and Ken Braatz. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Fergus Falls; his son, Steven of Fergus Falls; four daughters: Pati (Thomas) Magnuson and Julie Nelson of Fergus Falls, Barb (Jimmy) Brown of Minneapolis and Manzanillo, Mexico, and Mary (Tom DeReu) Bordson of Buffalo, MN; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Charlie) Mikesell of St. Paul, Andrew (Sally) Nelson of Fergus Falls, and Fredy Godinez of Manzanillo, MX; and great-grandchildren: Fredy Godinez Jr. and baby Nelson due in December; adopted family, Michelle and Brian Jeska and their children Emily and Tyler James of Brooklyn Park; his siblings: Claire Orpen, Erwin (Ellen) Johnson, Jr., Jolaine Anderson, Shirley Johnson, and Paul (Darlene) Johnson; and numerous other relatives. Memorials are preferred to the Lake Region Hospital Foundation for the new Fergus Falls Cancer Center. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
