Stanley M. Hanson, Sr., 72, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at his home in rural Fergus Falls.
Stanley was born on May 25, 1942 in Maddock, ND, the son of Selmer and Marcyle (Stevens) Hanson. He grew up and attended school in Maddock, ND and also Fergus Falls.
On December 26, 1963, he married Doris Schwebach in South Mill, NC. The couple lived in Fergus Falls and in 1966 Stanley began working for the city of Fergus Falls in the street department. He continued with the city until his retirement in 1998 at which time he was a heavy equipment operator. He also enjoyed working part time for Ebersviller’s Implement , Worner’s Auto Sales, Bottner’s Excavating, and Robert Ehlert’s.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Eagles, Dalton Thresherman’s Association, Rollag Thresherman’s Association and Greater MN 2 Cylinder Club.
In his younger years, he loved fishing with his grandpa at Orwell Dam and racing cars. Throughout his life, he enjoyed restoring tractors, collecting and crushing aluminum cans, working, camping, farming, shopping at Menards, Walmart, and Harbor Freight, trips to Arizona and Mexico, driving the mule, and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Sem, sister-in-law, Beverly Schultz-Hanson and brothers-in-law, Rodney and John Schwebach.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Fergus Falls; children, LaVonne Hanson (Scott Huseth) of Elbow Lake, Stanley (Shirley) Hanson, Jr. of Fergus Falls, Mary Ann (Randy) Martin of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Samuel (Jessica) Aschnewitz of Fergus Falls, Megan Aschnewitz (Tim Lewis) of Fergus Falls, Benjamin and Mackenzie Martin of Moorhead, MN, Justin Huseth of Rolla, ND, Melanie (Ron) Rieken of Erhard, Stacey Anderson of St. Cloud, Terah (Philip) Kraft of St. Cloud, Angie Ballard of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Kirkvold, Rylee Rieken, Jaydon Zenda, Brinna Rieken, Ethan Kraft, Wyatt Anderson, Rowyn Harrom, Emma Aschnewitz, Kalvin and Reid Lewis; brother, Sidney Hanson of Fergus Falls and in-laws, John and Velma Schwebach of Dell Rapids, SD. Also surviving are numerous brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, extended family members and special friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Burial will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
