Solway "Sally" Olson

March 4, 1918 — December 15, 2012

Solway Olson, 94, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, December 15, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Solway “Sally” Ingara Erickson was born March 4, 1918 at home at a farm in the Murdock, Minnesota area, the second child of Albert and Karen (Alsvick) Erickson. When Solway was about 10 months old her father died in the influenza epidemic, which left the family destitute. Eventually they moved to Aiken, MN, and the Thorpe, MN area when her mother married Robert Westlund. Sally attended and graduated from high school in Atwater, MN. She worked in the Minneapolis area for some time.

Sally married Raynold Olson of Lake Lillian, MN on September 22, 1939. They moved to Louisiana for work until Raynold was inducted into the Armed Forces. After World War II they moved back to Lake Lillian. Two children were born of their union, Karen and Peter.

Besides being a mother and wife, Sally worked at the local newspaper as a linotype setter for eight years. From 1963 to 1980 she was a postal clerk in Lake Lillian, and served as officer in charge for one year, turning down the permanent postmaster job twice. For a total of 17 years Sally wrote a column for the Lake Lillian Crier, called “It’s a Women’sWhirl”. After retiring in 1980 she began spending time every winter in Florida, becoming a full time resident in 1984. In 1989 Sally publicly accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, and was baptized at Indian Rocks Baptist Church in Largo, Florida.

Sally enjoyed travel, dancing, golf, shuffleboard, bowling and people. She traveled to the Holy Land and to Norway.

The last six years of her life Sally lived in Fergus Falls, MN, mostly with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following the death of her son Peter and then her dear sister Ruby, Sally became less attached to this life and more focused of the next. On December 15, 2012, she went home to Glory in heaven, Praise His Holy Name!

Sally is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Thomas Prischmann of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law Deb Olson of Litchfield MN; grandchildren: Hope (Daniel) Winrod, Amy (Mike) Trom, Mark (Gracia) Prischmann, Jesse Prischmann, and Erinn Prischmann; great-grandchildren: Luke, Seth, Grace, Katie and Joel Winrod; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raynold Olson, son Peter Olson, her mother Karen Westlund, father Albert Erickson, step-father Robert Westlund, sister Ruby (Vernon) Lundahl, brother Eugene Westlund, and special friend Chuck Hunt.
