Shirley Maxine Quigley, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, after a long illness. She was born December 27, 1926, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Sam and Clara (Johnson) Olson. She attended school in Elbow Lake, and then attended Concordia College in Moorhead. She married James Quigley in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1951. They had three children. Shirley’s lifelong passion was music, and she was a piano and voice teacher for most of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Eleanor Erickson; a son, James Quigley and his wife, Ginny; and a daughter, Suzan Neergaard. Survivors include her daughter, Cherry Island of Bullhead City, AZ, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Church of Peace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls, with Reverend Gary Gottfried officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Hjerdal Cemetery, rural Ashby. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
