Shirley Drechsel

Shirley Ann (Hauge) Drechsel, 86 years old of Fergus Falls, MN died on January 13, 2025 at Park Gardens Memory Care.

Shirley was born on February 12, 1938 in Fergus Falls, MN to Telford and Ruth (Rippie) Hauge. Shirley married the love of her life, Vernon Drechsel, on September 8, 1956. After they married, they moved to Fort Bragg, NC, while Vernon proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne. After completing Vernon's tour of duty, they moved back to Fergus Falls where they started their family.

Shirley and Vern raised three children, Paul, Annette and Jay. When the children were of school age, Shirley worked seasonally sewing for Kimber-Awning Company. She later worked as a customer service representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN. Shirley retired in 1996, because Vern was having so much fun in his retirement.

Shirley was also very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was involved in various women's groups and could often be found in the church kitchen helping to serve "a little lunch." She spent many days doting on her grandchildren. She was known for her baking and always had a pot of coffee on for anyone who stopped by.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her three children, Paul (Carol) Drechsel of Ottertail, MN, Annette (Bret) Shoberg of Fergus Falls, MN, Jay (Janet) Drechsel of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Justin (Jamie) Drechsel of Fortuna, CA, Andrea (John) Sherlock of Fargo, ND, Tyler (Erin) Shoberg of Fargo, ND, Monica (Tony Bell) Shoberg of Brooklyn Center, MN, William (Ina) Drechsel of Fargo, ND, and Katherine (Aaron Podoll) Drechsel of Parker, CO; and eleven great-grandchildren, Michaela, Kaleb and Bode Drechsel, Emma, Lydia, and Daphne Sherlock, Nolan and Lauren Shoberg, Cullen and Eastyn Drechsel, and Ronan Podoll. Shirley will also be missed by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Linda) Hauge, Ronald (Marlene) Hauge; her sister, Becky Petersen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert Drechsel Jr., Gloria Drechsel, Duane (Marilyn) Drechsel, Vernell Drechsel, Patti Dowd, and Carroll (Pauline) Drechsel and by many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Vernon Drechsel, and her parents, Telford and Ruth Hauge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls with visitation one-hour prior to the service.
