Shirley Ann Dewey, 71, a lifelong resident of Fergus Falls, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from a fast form of cancer while a patient at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was born February 5, 1936, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer and Genevieve (Hagen) Halvorson. She grew up in Fergus Falls, graduating from high school there in 1954. She then attended nursing school in Fargo. On October 4, 1957, she married James Dewey at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They farmed near Campbell until 1962 when they moved to Fergus. Over the years she was involved with her children's activities including Camp Fire Girls, Little League baseball, and Wrestling Mat Boosters. Shirley was an involved member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church participating as a Sunday School teacher, in their circles and Ladies Aid groups, and RSVP (the volunteer program). She will be remembered for her passion in keeping her high school class together, and she enjoyed the many neighbors and their get-togethers. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, rosemaling, bird watching, decorating, antiques - especially family heirlooms, and her Boston Terriers. Most important of all to Shirley were her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Luwana Goese. Survivors include her husband, Jim of Fergus Falls; her daughter, Jenel (Michael) Lundquist of Phoenix, Arizona; two sons: Scott of Fergus Falls, and Kirk (Lisa) Dewey of Bismarck; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Howard Goese of Fergus Falls, Janice and John Walkup of Aitkin, and Carol and Russell Erlandson of Fergus Falls, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials are preferred to the Morning Watch Radio Broadcast or the Fergus Falls School District 544 Foundation. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
