Sherrill “Jake” Jacobson, 84, a resident of Underwood, died Friday, November 14, 2014, at Pioneer Cottages, Fergus Falls.
Sherrill was born on April 5, 1930, in Breckenridge, MN, the son of Almen and Gladys (Torkelson) Jacobson. He grew up in the Foxhome area and graduated from Morris Ag School in 1948.
On April 12, 1949, he married Arlyss Donley at the Bethlehem Lutheran church parsonage in Fergus Falls. They made their home in Underwood where he owned and operated Jacobson Construction and also did custom combining.
He was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church, the Underwood American Legion, served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Underwood Fire Department for 36 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing cards, woodworking, following the MN Twins and Vikings and installing weed rollers. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and storytelling and was known to care for not only his children but also their friends. His greatest joy in life was watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up, attending virtually all of their sporting events and getting to be a part of their lives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Arlyss; son, Terry; daughter- in-law, Sherri; sister, Jolene and brother, Gary.
Survivors include his children, Deb (Steve) Hoen, Steve (Carol) Jacobson, Randy (Cindy) Jacobson, Rick (Marie) Jacobson, and Greg (Deya) Jacobson; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Darel. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
