Sharon Westergard

Sharon Vonice Westergard, 74, a resident of rural Erhard, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at her home under the care of her family and Lakeland Hospice.

She was born September 23, 1939, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Selma (Johnson) and Henry Ouren. She grew up in the Erhard area, attending Pelican Rapids High School.

On June 8, 1957, she married Adrian Westergard in Erhard, Minnesota. They made their home in Maplewood Township where they raised their family.

She was a member of Maplewood Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard.

Sharon enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing, reading, playing cards, bird watching, music, and outings with the Church Basement Ladies. She most enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Lester and Harold (Carol) Ouren, a sister, Joyce (George) Thiel, sisters-in-law Annette Kruse, Phyllis Hornstine, and Jean Ouren, a brother-in-law, Maynard Hornstine, her stepfather, Charles Bengtson, and her father and mother-in-law, Anton and Olga Westergard.

Survivors include her husband, Adrian, of rural Erhard; their children: Michelle (Micki) Peterson of St. Cloud, Carolyn Westergard (Al Congrave) of Elbow Lake, Kathy (Rick) Hallinan of Cold Spring, Mike (Carol) Westergard of Fergus Falls, Kyle (Janet) Westergard of Barrett, and Risa (Jim) Meder of Sauk Rapids; nine grandchildren: Sarah (Chris) Syverson, Timothy (Brittany) Peterson, Shane Westergard (Eileen Huggins), Kristin Westergard, Emily Westergard, Shaelyn Westergard, Kelsey Boese, Elise Meder, and Brandon Meder; four great-grandchildren: Aiden and Christian Syverson, and Jackson and Logan Peterson; a sister, Sylvia (Orin) Koziol of Nashua; four brothers, Clifford Ouren of Battle Lake, LeRoy (Marilyn) Ouren and James (Sheila) Ouren of Erhard, and Roy (Karen) Ouren of Willmar; sisters-in-law: Pat Ouren, of Erhard, Alma (Marvin) Ronningen of Dent, and Alvina (Don) Lein of Moorhead; and brother-in-law Art (Beth) Westergard of Kinston NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erhard
Clergy: Reverend Brad Soenksen and Chaplain Vicki Marthaler
Interment: Will be at a later date at the family cemetery
Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
