Sharon Joy Spies, 82, died Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, MN surrounded by her loving family.
Sharon was born October 12, 1942 to Sherman William and Alice Irene (Anderson) Ferguson. She grew up in Fergus Falls attending school at Jefferson Elementary and graduating from Fergus Falls High School. As a teenager, Sharon met Gary Spies, the love of her life. They married on August 20, 1960 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Sharon proudly supported Gary in the family business, Service Food Market, their entire life together.
Sharon embraced her middle name bringing "Joy" to all she knew. She loved her family with her whole heart, and had wonderful friendships, many that were lifelong. She was called "Stubby" by so many, an endearing nickname her father gave her at birth. "Bama" was the loving name used by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sharon's gift for making everything beautiful was evident in all that she touched. Whether it was her immaculate garden and yard, her beautifully decorated home, or the warmth and elegance with which she entertained, she made it all seem effortless. Sharon had an eye for detail that left a lasting impression. Her dinner parties were fabulous, and she delighted in bringing family and friends together for good food, great conversation, and cherished memories.
Through the years Sharon enjoyed potluck group, bridge club, and being a member of PEO. She loved to travel and enjoyed countless adventures with Gary, family, and dear friends. She loved nature, especially birds, the ocean, the lake and sunsets. She loved movies and Hollywood, music, wine, popcorn and especially potatoes.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gary; parents, Sherman and Alice Ferguson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Laura Spies; sister-in-law, Mary Gail Coleman and infant nephew, Brent Spies.
Sharon is survived by her children, Shelly (Brian) Suckow, Lana (Tim) Johnson, and Amy King; grandchildren, Josh (Elizabeth) Suckow, Alison (Jared) Haecherl, Lydia (Kevin) Loranger, Claire (Darius) Suckow, Andrew (Therese) Johnson, Lauren (Will) Rader, Nicholas Johnson, Kayla (Cass) Vigen, Max King, and Sam King; sister Jodie (Sid) Wells; brothers-in-law, David (Janice) Spies and John Coleman; nieces and nephews, Thomas (Melanie) Coleman, Sarah Coleman, Sean (Hira) Coleman, Rachel (Alec) Robertson, Matthew (Julia) Spies, Jonathan (Erin) Spies, Allie (Jordan) Shepherd, Emily Sivertson, and Hannah (Billy) Lammers Olson, and many cousins, great-grandchildren, and great-nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the staff at Lake Region Healthcare for the wonderful care given to Sharon.
